First Pop-Up Performance

On Tuesday, October 22, the MANNA Singers had their first performance on the steps of the cathedral. We met at the usual time, for a quick PB&J and warm-up before the performance. Overall the group was nervous and excited about what was to come. Will people want to listen? Is anyone going to be there? Will they like it? We loaded the keyboard with batteries, went out into the rain, and gathered on the steps of the cathedral under the overhang to stay dry. We came together joyfully in song and the voices were the strongest I’ve heard so far during my time at MANNA. Friends were there to support us, strangers stopped in the rain, and a brass band watched and listened to a couple of tunes. We sang our hearts out over the down pouring rain, and our supporters sang along with the familiar tunes. Our dedicated fans insisted on an encore, so we sang ‘Oh, When the Saints’ and ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot’ to close out the concert. I spoke to some of the choir members afterwards, and they were thrilled by the performance. I saw a newfound in the group confidence and excitement about singing and performing. If you missed it, here is a little video clip of our first number, ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’:
